A Classroom Run by Players Who've Sat Across the Board Themselves
The Chess Scholar was built around one belief: a child learns chess fastest from a coach who still plays for rating points, not just from someone who once did. Every coach on our team competes, and teaches, at the same time.
Harpreet Singh Brar Leads Our Coaching Panel
Harpreet started playing chess at nine, went on to win several state-level tournaments, and represented Punjab University at the national level for three seasons, from 2015 to 2017. He now leads coaching at The Chess Scholar, building every lesson around the psychology behind a move, not just the move itself.
"My job isn't to hand a student the right move. It's to ask the question that gets them there on their own. That's the moment chess actually sticks."
The Coaches Supporting Every Student's Progress
Three more coaches, three playing styles, the same standard as our head coach: they compete as seriously as they teach.
Lovish Verma
Lovish teaches with one rule: understand the principle before you play the pattern. His classes are built around a deep grounding in chess fundamentals, paired with room for a student's own creative ideas on the board.
Aniket Kathpal
An Arena International Master with eight years of coaching experience. Every student who joins Aniket's classes starts with a tailored assessment, followed by a structured lesson plan and live analysis of their own games.
Abhishek Bhargava
With more than a decade of coaching behind him, Abhishek has worked with everyone from young prodigies to adult beginners. His students consistently show measurable rating gains and go on to compete, and win, at tournament level.
Certified, Not Just Claimed
A few of the certificates and titles our coaches have earned along the way.

The Standard Every Coach Is Held To
Nurturing, not pressuring
A calm, encouraging classroom, whether a student is preparing for a tournament or learning how a knight moves.
Tailored to the individual
No two students follow the same lesson plan. Coaches build around each child's pace, strengths and gaps.
Excellence as the goal
Coaches push students to strive for real improvement, measured in ratings, results and confidence at the board.
